Event Type: Films-Movies-Videos Age Group(s): Family (All Ages) Date: 2/8/2019 Start Time: 2:00 PM End Time: 3:00 PM Description: This art documentary film is an exploration of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s 1983 Surrounded Islands project in Miami’s Biscayne Bay. It depicts the project from inception to installation and brings up questions of subsequent social impact. Islands shares the journey of the momentous pink venture conveying both the large scale phases of the project and simultaneously many of the tedious, banal steps. This juxtaposition in perspective offers insight to the multifaceted feat of realizing the visionary project: the meshing of worlds where art meets politics meets science meets community; the intricate after-effects physically, sociologically and ecologically; and the omnipresent sense of give and take as exposed by vacillating pink woven polypropylene fabric.
