Description:
Social Sculpture, Performance Lecture by Veronica Fazzio.

Experience a performance lecture, and go deep into the conversation as we discuss the life and work of the late Cuban‑born artist, Ana Mendieta. The lecture will cover the different locations where Ana Mendieta worked and left her impressions. Her silhouettes and marks still live on and can be found in Cuba, Miami, New York, and Rome. Her performative work overlapped the world of ritualism, feminism and the autobiographical. Mendieta was quoted as saying, “I have been carrying on a dialogue between the landscape and the female body (based on my own silhouette). I believe this has been a direct result of my having been torn from my homeland (Cuba)…” The aim of her work was to connect back to the universe. We will discuss her marks and silhouettes throughout the different geographies and try to understand her journey as an artist.

This will be followed by an open discussion, dialogue and Q&A.
